The site is for advanced students.
When you are at the start page you can chose three main topics: English, Maths and Science.
Under that you find a box called Find an activity here. Under them there 2 boxes with the topics:
Games and Bitesize Links and the last box under the others is called BBC Links.
If you click on the English link you get three topics again: Reading, Writing and Spelling and Grammar.
In the top of the site there is an introduction saying that: “Reading, writing and spelling and grammar skills can help you tell a story, share your ideas, write a letter and make sense of instructions. We use them everyday and they help us understand each other”
If you click on Reading you get to a site where there is this explanation: “This section looks at reading fiction and non fiction texts including adverts, dictionaries and poetry. Learn how to look at language, layout and meaning”
Then there is four Topics: Deduction, Dictionaries, Non-Fiction, and Poetry. Out from every topic there is the options: Play, Read, Watch, Quiz.
You can then chose what you want to do first.

Back at the Home page if you chose the box with the topic Games. You can chose to play Questionaut this games has an amazing graphic, it is so well done and you get into this funny wired world. It is not easy to figure out what you need to do. but it is good for interdisciplinary learning. and your older students will probably really like it!

Authenticity

The site is free and there is no advertisement. its under the BBC teacher site and seam to have a very clear learning purpose.

Communication and interaction

This site is stuffed with learning material. The students can work on the sites individually ore in groups. Some of the games they really need to think about what the best way to communicate some different subjects to others.

Authentic language use

Most of the games are well explained, and they get to practice reading and listening. An example if you are on the English site. Then go to the Reading site.Then there is four Topixs: Deduction, Dictionaries, Non-Fiction, and Poetry. Out from every topic there is the options: Play, Read, Watch, Quiz. If you want to Watch something about Deduction you get to a video were Melvin & Steven explain deduction in their latest adventure. They have a good accent that is very authentic.

Is it motivating?

The design on the site is very good. The site’s have many options. It is very colourful and there is lot of different things to do.

General Information

The site has been tested in these browsers: Google Crome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet explorer. You need Java to play the games.
